When can you claim compensation from Vueling?
Vueling Flight Delay
Your flight compensation eligibility is determined by the following conditions
- Your flight was operated by an EU airline (This requirement is automatically fulfilled as Vueling Airlines is based in Spain)
- You arrived at your final destination with a delay of over three hours
- Your Vueling delay was not due to any extraordinary circumstances
According to EU rules, you can only claim compensation if your flight was delayed by more than three hours. We recommend that you note down the time when the aircraft doors open. This is the official arrival time. It will determine your right to compensation.
Your right to Vueling compensation is determined by the delay to the final destination, not the delay incurred before takeoff. There might be cases where passengers whose flights have departed three hours late may not be eligible for delay compensation. For example, if a flight took off more than 3h behind schedule but reached its destination with a delay of slightly under three hours, passengers would not be entitled to compensation.
However, even if you departed less than 3 hours late but arrived at your final destination more than three hours late, you could claim Vueling Airlines delayed flight compensation. These instances are the least common, however.
The second important condition for compensation eligibility is that your flight delay was not due to any extraordinary circumstances. In general, any event which caused an unpreventable delay or cancellation may be considered as a case of extraordinary circumstances.
The most common instances of exceptional circumstances include:
- bad weather conditions,
- air traffic control strikes,
- control tower restrictions,
- bird strikes.
In all of these cases, Vueling would be unable to prevent or ameliorate the delays to its flights. Therefore, passengers would not be able to claim delay compensation.
Vueling Flight Cancellation Compensation
Have you had an unexpected Vueling cancellation? Your right to compensation will be determined by the following criteria:
- Your Vueling flight was not cancelled due to any extraordinary circumstances.
- The airline informed you of the cancellation less than 14 days before the flight. You reached your final destination with a delay of over 4h
- You were notified of the cancellation less than 7 days before the flight. In this case, you would be eligible for compensation if your alternate flight arrives with a delay of over 2 hours.
Don’t forget that you may claim more than compensation for your cancelled flight. You are also entitled to either a full refund of your ticket price or an alternate flight to your final destination.
In fact, even if you are not eligible for Vueling Airlines flight cancellation compensation, you would still be entitled to a refund or an alternate flight.
Vueling Overbooking Compensation
According to EU Regulation 261/2004, if you have been denied boarding to your flight, you could claim Vueling compensation.
In order to be eligible, it is important that you presented yourself on time for check-in and at the gate. In addition, you should not have given up your seat to the overbooked Vueling flight voluntarily. Sometimes the airline will offer a travel voucher or other perks to passengers in exchange for their seats. If you accept, you would not be entitled to denied boarding compensation from Vueling.
Vueling Airlines was founded in 2004 and its inaugural flight took place between Barcelona Airport El Prat (BCN) and Ibiza Airport (IBZ). Today, it owns the largest Spanish fleet and is the Spanish carrier that serves the most destinations. After a difficult financial period between 2007 and 2009, Vueling merged with Spanish low-cost airline and competitor Clickair.
Vueling has experienced a period of significant growth after 2009 and the airline opened additional bases and expanded their aircraft.
In the summer of 2016, the frequent delays and cancellations of Vueling’s services prompted an investigation by the Spanish authorities.
Vueling Airlines gets its name from vuelo― the Spanish word for “flight”.
Vueling has received an overall rating of 3/10 from Skytrax, the leading website for airline rankings. According to users’ reviews, this relatively low score reflects a low value for money and the quality of the inflight entertainment and overall customer comfort onboard of Vueling rights.
