When can you claim compensation from Vueling?

Vueling Flight Delay

Your flight compensation eligibility is determined by the following conditions

  1. Your flight was operated by an EU airline (This requirement is automatically fulfilled as Vueling is registered in Spain)
  2. You arrived at your final destination with an overall delay of over three hours
  3. Your Vueling delay was not due to any extraordinary circumstances

Check Compensation

To claim compensation for a delay, your flight needs to have arrived at its final destination at least three hours behind schedule. This is why we always recommend that passengers make a note of their arrival time when they reach their destination.

Since your right to Vueling flight delay compensation is determined by the delay to the final destination, in a few cases passengers whose flights have departed with a delay of over three hours may not be eligible. For example, if a flight departed more than three hours late but reached its destination with a delay of slightly under three hours, passengers would not be entitled to compensation.

However, even if you departed less than 3 hours late but due to an in-flight delay, you arrived at your final destination more than three hours late, you could claim Vueling Airlines delayed flight compensation.

The second important condition for compensation eligibility is that your flight delay did not result from any extraordinary circumstances. In general, any event which caused an unpreventable delay or cancellation may be classified as an example of extraordinary circumstances.

The most common instances include adverse weather conditions, air traffic control strikes, control tower restrictions and bird strikes. In all of these cases, Vueling would be unable to prevent or ameliorate the delays to its flights. Therefore, passengers would not be able to claim flight delay compensation.

Vueling Flight Cancellation Compensation

Have you had an unexpected Vueling cancellation? Your right to compensation will be determined by the following criteria:

  • The airline informed you of the cancellation less than 14 days prior to the flight
  • You reached your final destination with a delay of over 4 hours. (Please note: If you were notified of the cancellation less than 7 days before the flight, you would be eligible for compensation if your alternate flight arrives with a delay of over 2 hours.)
  • Your Vueling flight was not cancelled due to any extraordinary circumstances.

Is my flight eligible?

It is important to remember that in addition to compensation for your cancelled flight, you are also entitled to either a full refund of your ticket price or an alternate flight to your final destination.

In fact, even if you are not eligible for Vueling Airlines flight cancellation compensation, you would still be entitled to a refund or an alternate flight.

Vueling Overbooking Compensation

According to EU Regulation 261/2004, if you have been denied boarding to your flight, you could claim Vueling compensation.

In order to be eligible, it is important that you presented yourself on time for check-in and at the gate. In addition, you should not have given up your seat for the overbooked Vueling flight voluntarily. Sometimes the airline will offer a travel voucher or other perks to passengers in exchange for their seat to the overbooked flight. If you accept, you would not be entitled to denied boarding compensation from Vueling.

About Vueling

Vueling Airlines was founded in 2004 and its inauguration flight took place between Barcelona Airport El Prat (BCN) and Ibiza Airport (IBZ). Today, it owns the largest Spanish fleet and is the Spanish carrier that serves the most destinations. Vueling has experienced a period of significant growth after 2009 and the airline opened additional bases and expanded their aircraft.

In the summer of 2016, an investigation by the Spanish authorities was prompted by the significant delays and cancellations of Vueling services.

Vueling Airlines gets its name from vuelo the Spanish word for “flight”.
