TAP is the flag carrier of Portugal and was founded in 1945. TAP stands for Transportes Aéreos Portugueses, or Portuguese Air Transport. Its first operations connected Lisbon with Madrid, Porto and with Portugal’s colonies at the time.
In 2005 TAP became a member of Star Alliance and as a result, it operates numerous codeshare flights with other Alliance members. A year later TAP merged with the local Portuguese airline Portugalia, and in the fall of 2017, the airline was renamed to TAP Air Portugal.
TAP flies to 87 cities in over 30 countries and connects Europe with Africa, North and South America. Not surprisingly, it is the European carrier with the most flights to Brazil. TAP has a fleet of more than 100 aircraft and TAP Express has an additional 21 planes which are used for its short and medium-haul routes. The main hub for both TAP Air Portugal and TAP Express is Lisbon Airport ( LIS ).
Skytrax, one of the leading online airline review websites, has given TAP a score of 4/10. The grade reflects the quality of the airline’s customer service, value for money as well as the food and drinks, seat comfort, and the entertainment offered on board.
