Montenegro Airlines becomes Air Montenegro

Montenegro Airlines, the country's former flag carrier, ceased all operations on 26 December 2020 and was placed into liquidation. It was replaced by Montenegro Airlines (To Montenegro a.d.), the new national airline founded in early 2021, which flew its first commercial service on 10 June 2021 and took over part of its predecessor's Embraer E195 fleet.

Montenegro Airlines now flies from Podgorica and Tivat to 16 airports across 11 countries, including Paris, Rome, Frankfurt, Ljubljana, Prague, Belgrade, and Istanbul — but it serves no UK airport, so British travellers typically reach Montenegro with another airline and join an Montenegro Airlines service onward from a European hub.

On those legs, a flight departing an EU airport such as Paris or Rome falls under EU Regulation 261/2004, meaning a delay over 3 hours, a cancellation or denied boarding can be claimed. Claims against the old Montenegro Airlines, now in liquidation, are in practice unrecoverable.
