About Aurigny
Aurigny, officially referred to as Aurigny Air Services Ltd., is recognized as the airline of the Channel Islands, as it provides air travel services to both the largest island in the region, the Bailiwick of Jersey, and the Bailiwick of Guernsey. The Bailiwicks are self-governing territories under the authority of the British Crown, hence the official term for them - Crown dependencies.
Aurigny Air Services belongs, along with Anglo Normandy Aero Engineering, to a bigger company, Aurigny Group. The holding company is called Cabernet Ltd and is fully owned by the States of Guernsey.
Aurigny’s fleet currently consists of 7 aircraft: 1 Embraer 195, 4 ATR 72, and 2 Dornier 228 NG. The twinjet Embraer is the largest plane operated by Aurigny, with a capacity of 122 passengers.
The regional airline serves 13 destinations in total, 5 of them seasonal (S):
- Channel islands: Alderney
- London Gatwick (there was a flight to London Stansted as well at some point but it is currently not operating)
- UK: Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Exeter, Leeds Bradford (S), Manchester, Southampton
- Europe: Grenoble (S), Dublin (S), Malaga (S), Ibiza (S).
Compensation for Aurigny Flight Delays and Cancellations
Aurigny Airlines exhibits good overall results in On-time-performance statistics despite the challenging weather conditions on the Channel islands. The official numbers they posted on their website for January 2023 show that 81% of their flights arrived within 15 minutes of the announced arrival time. When the delay interval is expanded to 60 minutes after the planned landing time, 94% of Aurigny’s flights fit in.
The airline management generally prefers not to cancel flights but to take the risk of a delay and make sure their customers get to their final destination. However, a flight disruption is never a pleasant experience, especially if there is no objective reason for it.
We at SkyRefund know that and are here to help you in case your Aurigny flight was delayed or canceled. According to European Regulation EC 261/2004, you may get up to £260 (€300) in compensation for your trouble. (The maximum amount is actually £515 (€600) but only for flights over 3,500 km. Unfortunately, the flights operated by Aurigny don’t even come close to covering this distance.)
So far, so good. However, getting your compensation on your own is not as easy as you might imagine. The process is lengthy, tedious, and full of bureaucracy. This is where SkyRefund comes in: claiming your Aurigny compensation is a piece of cake with us! First, you can use our free compensation calculator to check whether you are eligible for reimbursement. Aurigny Airlines Flight Delays
Here are the two important requirements for compensation eligibility in case your flight with the Channel Islands airline does not take off on time:
- The delay exceeded three hours (when comparing the scheduled arrival time at your final destination with the actual time of arrival). The flight's arrival is deemed complete when the aircraft has come to a complete stop and one of its doors is opened.
- The delay was not triggered by extraordinary circumstances, such as:
- Bad weather conditions - storms, hail, heavy rain or snow;
- Air traffic control restrictions and/or runway closures;
- Political or civil unrest;
- Security threats (e.g. terrorist attacks)
- Airport staff or union strikes.
Note that Aurigny Airlines will be required to pay you compensation if they are accountable for the delay. This means that strikes by the airline personnel or technical issues with the aircraft are not considered extraordinary circumstances and would oblige Aurigny to pay the reimbursement.
Aurigny Airlines Flight Cancellations
If your Aurigny flight was cancelled altogether, there are three possible scenarios for you getting reimbursed:
- Aurigny informed you of the cancellation less than two weeks before the planned departure.
- If Aurigny informed you between 7 and 14 days prior to departure, you can get compensation if the alternative flight arrives at your final destination with a delay exceeding 4 hours.
- If Aurigny informed you within 7 days of the scheduled flight, you can get compensation if the replacement flight arrives at your final destination with a delay exceeding 2 hours.
- In any of the above mentioned cases, the cancellation must NOT be the result of extraordinary circumstances (as explained above).
Remember: Should your flight be cancelled for any reason, Aurigny is obligated to either provide you with an alternative flight to your final destination without any additional cost or offer you a full refund of the ticket price.
